Surbana Jurong holds first infrastructure forum in Myanmar
Surbana Jurong (SJ) kicked off the year with a bang with its inaugural Infrastructure Forum on 26 January 2018. There was an overwhelming turnout of some 350 attendees at the event, which was graced by U Maung Maung Win, Myanmar’s Deputy Minister of Planning and Finance, U Min Htin Aung Han, Minister for Mon State’s Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Industry, U Win Khant, Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Transport and Communications, and Vanessa Chan, Singapore’s Ambassador to Myanmar.
Mooted by the SJ’s Myanmar team, the theme of the Forum was “Unlocking Potential Value in Myanmar’s Infrastructure Development”. Speakers and panellists from the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA), Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Colliers, Oxford Business Group, Wong Partnership, and SJ’s technical experts, got together to share their views on the importance of infrastructure development and the need for investments in infrastructure, know-how, processes and legislation to drive Myanmar’s future economy.
Prior to the Forum, a media conference was held on 25 January 2018 to announce Surbana Jurong’s collaboration with MOSB, a Singapore joint venture company, to design an Offshore Supply Base (OSB) in Mon State, Myanmar. SJ’s Myanmar team will provide engineering and marine consultancy, environmental social impact assessment and project management.
As part of SJ Myanmar’s commitment towards nurturing local talent, scholarships were also presented to three top students who are pursuing Master’s degrees for architecture and engineering at Mandalay Technological University. They will be given opportunities to work in the SJ Group upon graduation.
